The unending stream of unspoken thoughts that runs through your head is referred to as self-talk. It's how we see things in the past, present, and future. Internal dialogue, whether positive or negative, has a significant impact on our sense of self-worth, confidence, resilience, and the actions we take.
We’re hardwired to beat ourselves up over things we can’t control. What we don’t know is that our thoughts are powerful. They manifest in ways that are toxic and destructive. Just like the author Jen Sincero said, “Our thoughts become our words, our words become our beliefs, our beliefs become our actions, our actions become our habits, and our habits become our realities.”
It's not about ignoring or suppressing your negative self-talk or misleading yourself when you reframe your inner dialogue. It's about acknowledging your inner critic's statements while deliberately choosing to believe a more positive narrative—one led by your inner coach, optimist, and cheerleader.
So, how do we reframe negative self-talk before it becomes our reality?
Begin by expressing and acknowledging the ideas that are holding you down – the ones that serve no purpose other than to keep you stranded. Sit with it and remember that this idea, this thought isn’t your reality but rather an energy in your body. Then, find a way to let go of these thoughts; my favorite way is through meditation. I sit in a quiet spot, close my eyes, do a series of breathing exercises and imagine in my mind’s eye that the negative thoughts are leaves floating down a stream away from me. End this with a powerful affirmation.
This is such a beautiful and important message💞i love the images of negative thoughts floating away like leaves, and I will try to remember that calming image. Thank you<3
